On Monday, July 7, 2025, a quiet Westland neighborhood came alive with the sound of hammers and teamwork as crews from Neighborhood Roofing replaced the roof on the Savage family home. Charles “Chuck” Savage, a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and his wife Diane stood watching with tears in their eyes as crews from Neighborhood Roofing worked diligently overhead. They weren’t just replacing shingles—they were restoring peace of mind to a family that has given so much to their country.
This life-changing day was made possible through a powerful collaboration between the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, Purple Heart Homes, and Neighborhood Roofing, an Owens Corning Platinum Roofing Contractor serving Southeast Michigan for nearly 50 years.
The Savage family’s previous roof was showing its age—an ongoing concern for a couple eager to maintain their home. Thanks to the combined efforts of Neighborhood Roofing, Owens Corning, and Purple Heart Homes, those worries were replaced with gratitude and peace of mind.
“We feel so blessed that someone is helping with this because it’s a big job and a big ordeal,” said Diane. “It’s a big weight off our shoulders,” added Chuck.
As an Owens Corning Platinum Roofing Contractor, Neighborhood Roofing donated all the labor to complete the project, while Owens Corning provided the materials.
Since 2016, the Roof Deployment Project has replaced roofs for over 675 veterans nationwide, honoring their service with much-needed home repairs.
