When a home lacks sufficient insulation and venting there are a number of bad things that can happen. In the case of this home, it was black mold, which can weaken the structure. For this undertaking we vacuumed out the existing insulation, put in new insulation, and installed baffles and decking.

By today’s standards, most homes built more than 10 years ago can be considered under-insulated. Insulation levels are specified by R-Value. R-Value is a measure of insulation’s ability to resist heat flow. The higher the R-Value, the better the thermal performance of the insulation. The recommended level for most attics is to insulate to R-38 or about 10 to 14 inches, depending on insulation type.
