Poor Ventilation Leads to Cathedral Ceiling Leak

Ann Arbor, MI

Shingles: Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration & EPDM

Color: Teak

Cathedral ceilings make a room feel open by adding an aesthetic dimension. However, they are also popular for leaks in the home, usually due to ventilation. When a roof does not have proper airflow, condensation can build up due to hot air being trapped. We see this often with these types of ceilings. For this Ann Arbor home, we installed shingle over intake edge vent and baffles to correct the issue. This will allow proper airflow to prevent moisture in the cavity between the ceiling and the roof. We installed new Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration TEAK shingles & EPDM in the low slope areas. EPDM is a rubber membrane designed for superior weather ability through a wide range of temperatures and conditions.
